Unmistakably Nordic in flavor, Sofia Talvik somehow still conforms to American interpretations of her own original music, a North Sea siren blending sparkle and melancholy, creating a special niche of folk music.
The response so far to my new album Center of the Universe has been phenomenal! It went straight in on #14 on USA Folk Radio Charts for August with the single in top 10!
I’ve also gotten a bunch of great reviews, both in Europe but also in the USA.
”Swedish folk singer, songwriter, and guitarist Sofia Talvik has been making fine albums for many years now, but this self-produced latest entry may be her best to date. Her angelic vocals, which sound redolent of early Marianne Faithfull, remain a major asset, as are her original songs, which combine lilting melodies with frequently profound lyrics. Too few artists today offer protest material, but Talvik seems to have picked up the mantle from singer/songwriters like Joan Baez, Buffy Sainte-Marie, and Pete Seeger with antiwar numbers like “Circle of Destruction” and “Boy Soldier.” Another standout is the poignant “Too Many Churches,” which effectively addresses the abortion debate and ways in which organized religion falls short.” – Americana Highways
Thank you all so much who have been listening, supporting and playing my songs.
I’m happy to announce that a vinyl will be available in November!
First of all a huge thank you to all of you who pre-ordered the album and the deluxe package with the Mini Documentary. We are working like crazy to get it ready and out for you. Until then, I hope you enjoy the album. All the albums that were ordered to U.S addresses has been shipped and should reach you soon if they haven’t already. All albums to European addresses will be sent early November when I am back in Europe after my tour. Why you might ask? Well it costs $20 to send one CD to Europe from the USA, and all sorts of customs declarations must be filled out to send it. Even if I could do all of that there is still a big risk that the album will go missing on the way, or get stuck in customs with extra charges for you to release it. So, that is why you’ll get it later, but as we say in Sweden – The one who waits for something good never waits too long.
A huge thank you also to all the people who have been working on the album, Peyton, Drake, Janne and Joakim for playing, Jonas and Hans for working the sound bits making it all come together.
If you haven’t bought the album yet you can do it here: http://music.sofiatalvik.com You can also listen to it on all streaming platforms.
I am also happy to release a music video for the title track – Center of the Universe. Watch it here:
This Fall I am releasing my new album Center of the Universe.
With this album I have spent the most time and effort, carefully crafting the songs and assembled a very talented group of musicians to create what I think might be my best album to date. We flew over two amazing musicians from the U.S to Sweden to record with me, and rented a 19th century house to record in to get the right sound and feeling.
It’s being mixed and mastered by Sweden’s most foremost mix technician Hans Olsson, and will sound amazing! Needless to say this has not been a cheap venture, and after consulting with a few of you to see what YOU would like as some extra perks,
I have now put up a pre-order for the album with the chance to get some extra goodies. So if you want to support me and the making of this album, grab one of the packages today to make sure you get the extra perks. The album and preview packages will be released in August. If you do not wish to get the pre-order the CD will be available at concerts, and in my online store from November.
The pre-order with the exclusive items will be open until released date August 14th.

Super happy to be featured in Bluegrass Today with a write up about my new single ‘Circle of Destruction’, and my upcoming album. Head over to their page to check it out!
I’m so excited to present the first single from my new album “Center of the Universe” which will be released this Fall. The first single is called “Circle of Destruction”.
We were joking in the studio when we were recording this song that it is Folk Metal, because the title – Circle of Destruction – sounds like a metal song more than a Folk/Americana/bluegrass piece. But it’s not Folk Metal, so don’t worry. I wrote the song in the first days of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but it’s also inspired by non war immigration, as well as a search for truth in a society that is more information based than fact based.
We recorded the song (and album) in the most peaceful place! Imagine yourself in a small rural village in Sweden. White-trimmed wooden houses that date back several hundred years are tucked in between the pines and birch tees next to the quiet lake where the sunlight glitters like gold on the gentle ripple. All around you, you can hear the buzzing of bumblebees, birds singing in the trees, and the sheep are grazing in a nearby pasture, surrounded by a hand tied willow fence. You can imagine that all that magic seeped into the recordings (and some of the bird song too).
With a group of carefully selected musicians; Peyton Clifford and Drake Duffer on accordion, guitar, and mandolin (both hailing from North Carolina) and Janne Manninen on bass (from Sweden), we built up a studio in the living room of one of the old houses. I’m so happy with how the album is turning out and I hope you will like it too!
If you want to support my tour, and Lil’Chief’s breakdowns (yes we already had to change the front brakes) please consider paying something for the single – add your own number what you think it is worth, you can do this on Bandcamp.
