New single released – Can You Read My Mind

I wanted to share something new with you — my brand new single, “Can You Read My Mind,” is out now. This song comes after my holiday album Wrapped in Paper, which many of you supported so warmly when it was released last December.

I wrote this song during a time when the world felt especially loud and overwhelming. It became a reflection on feeling worn down by the constant stream of news and noise, and the simple wish to step away from it all and reconnect with something real and grounding. As I sing in the song: “I’ll take my van down to the lake, where I can breathe the air and nothing I see is fake.”

If you’d like to listen to the new single, you can only find it on my website, https://sofiatalvik.bandcamp.com/track/can-you-read-my-mind where it is listed as a free download with the option to send a donation of your choice to help us cope with the exorbitant gas prices that are currently crippling our tour budget.

Thank you, as always, for being here and for supporting my music — it truly makes it possible for me to keep writing and touring.

Warmly,
Sofia

All the videos for the Lil’Chief Gas Fund in one place

When I set out on this tour, I couldn’t have known that gas prices would climb the way they have — the war changed a lot of things that were impossible to plan for a year ago when I put all of this together. But what I also couldn’t have predicted was the kindness that would meet me along the way.

Some of you found out about the Lil’Chief Gas Fund and quietly, generously, did something about it. No fuss. Just love.

And I made a promise — that everyone who contributed $20 or more would receive a personal thank-you song, written and recorded just for them. So that’s what I’ve been doing. Between drives and soundchecks, I’ve been sitting down with my guitar and writing. For you. For each of you, one by one.

I am working my way through the full list, and I want you to know — I think about each name on it. I write and record as soon as I can, and I will get to everyone. I know the posts on facebook and instagram quickly come and pass, so it can be hard to see what’s been done so far. That’s why I decided to make this post, gathering all the videos I am making.

To everyone who has been part of this — thank you. You’ve made the miles feel a little lighter and the road a little less stressful.

If you want to be a part of this we accept donations to the Lil’Chief gas fund at venmo @makakimusic and paypal.me/makakimusic – make sure your name is fully visible and that you mark it “gas fund” and that you choose “friends and family”. If you want to help out but don’t have that much, feel free to download my new single “Can you read my mind” and pay what you want, from zero and up. I am grateful for every dollar, in my tip jar, on my bandcamp and for the Lil’Chief gas fund.

With so much gratitude, Sofia 🎶

Here are the songs I’ve made so far, this page will updated as soon as I release new ones:

Praise for “Wrapped in Paper”

Wow! I am so stoked that my new Christmas album Wrapped in Paper has gotten so much attention. Great reviews, a whole lot of airplay and listed on some of the most prestigious top lists there are.

“She sings with an angelic voice, and the music fits her style perfectly. It is almost unearthly at times, and the songs are almost so beautiful they border on painful.”
– Spill Magazine (4/5)

“Seemingly a response to the attention economy of social media and the sensationalism of the news cycle, Talvik calls for peace – the true meaning of this season, regardless of faiths or traditions – while wars, conflicts, and political frays are fought all around us.” – The Bluegrass Situation – Seasonal Musical Favorites

““Wrapped in Paper” collects her efforts since 2018, as she sings about snow, solitude, love and the passage of time.” The New York Times

“With a strong flavour of traditional folk and a beautiful voice that sits between frosty sweetness and the strength of protest, this song is a powerful letter to Santa.” – Listen with Monger

Also featured on a bunch of blogs and radio shows, from the BBC to NPR I can’t express the holiday cheer I feel that y’all took the time to listen to my songs! As I don’t want to hoard Christmas for myself, I’ll end this post with a link to a great Christmas playlist by Saving Country Music. Listen here! and Happy Holidays to you all!
