This week I’m singing with Karin Ström

Worldwide release!

In the end of October 2009 I’m releasing my third album “Jonestown” in the USA and later on in Japan. To give you a preview of the songs from the album I have gathered 12 of my favorite Swedish artists who will each perform one song from the album live with me on tape. Every week a new video is released, with a new song and a new guest artist.

Way back in the 90’s I read a book called “Bensin”. The author was a girl my age, Karin Ström, and she wrote about her life in London, as an aspiring artist. Now, years later, Karin has not only released a critically acclaimed album, she’s got another one on the way.’

I’m happy to present this week’s guest artist: Karin Ström

Karin Ström was born in Kristianstad, a small town in the south of Sweden. She always wanted to be a singer. At the age of 13 she started writing her first songs.  20 years old she moved to London, where she got signed to the Canadian record label Nettwerk which led her to relocate to Los Angeles. Here, she released a self titled five track EP (US, Canada, UK and Sweden) with lyrics in English.

Back in Stockholm she wrote, produced and recorded the EP “Sneda Ögons EP” in the autumn of 2005, and released it on her own label Datadamen Records. Datadamen (originally Karin’s DJ name) means Computer Lady, and this marked a change of Karin’s sound from organic and guitarbased to electronic and computerized. She also switched languages and now sings in Swedish. The 24th of January 2007 Karin released her first full length album “En saga om en sten”.

Sofia Talvik / Tom Levin – Arms and armour

Tom’s teenage years took him to Alaska, where he lived as an exchange student. It was here that his vocal talents were first discovered when the host family’s daughter heard him singing in the shower. Urged on by the host family’s belief in his abilities, Tom made his debut as a soloist in the school choir. But when Tom returned to Sweden, he put his music on the back shelf and started studying economics.
In June 2007 Tom’s song “Please disturb me” reach 4 reached 4 on AC/hot AC/New Music Weekly in the USA and it reached 3 on Independent Music Networks Mainstream.

On the 12th of December 2006 Tom Levin’s song “Just” reached 1 on New Music Weekly’s radio charts in the US (specifically the AC/Hot AC Main Chart and AC/Hot AC Indie Chart), and has to date been 1 for four consecutive weeks. “Just” also reached 8 on the Hot 100 Chart / New Music Weekly, and the Top 100 Chart / Friday Morning Quarter Back / ACQB.
Tom’s new album “Unfair in my favor” was released on June 11.

The cream of the underground!

indiecater
Indiecater Records, an offshoot of the Dublin based mp3hugger music blog has released a new compilation with my song My James Dean on it.

Indiecater Volume IV is a compilation with a total of 19 tracks featuring the cream of the underground. Most of the tracks are of the indie rock/jangle pop variety although there are dashes of electronica and experimentation throughout. The hope is that it will give some much deserved exposure to these great artists and encourage people like you into further investigation of their back catalogue. Every one of the songs has appeared on their sister blog mp3hugger at one stage or another. The majority of the sale price goes directly back to the bands so you can be safe in the knowledge that you are supporting independent music. Included in the download bundle are all 19 tracks, the original artwork and an information sheet. All this for only €7. It’s a bargain!!!

Here’s the video for my contribution to the album, now go and buy yourself a copy here!
