SxSW Canceled – not canceled

As you might have heard the big Austin festival SxSW has been canceled due to the Covid 19 scare. I was one of the official artists booked to showcase. At first I was saddened by the news, I have played SxSW many times before and was looking forward to coming back to promote my new album.

It didn’t take long though until the internet started bubbling with artists and venues that were determined that “the show must go on”. And since I am already on tour and in TX, I decided to keep my shows in Austin. It has been re-arranged a little bit but I am very happy to announce that we will be doing most of our planned gigs and a few new.

If you are concerned about the Covid-19, I can recommend my Lake Travis Library Concert on Friday the 20th, which was actually not part of SxSW to begin with. It will be a nice, low-key concert away from the hustle and bustle downtown.

For you Folk Lovers I am taking part in Austin Folk Festival which is held at Eastciders. My show there is Wednesday 18th at 7pm, but you should stay for the whole evening as there will be a bunch of great folk artists.

If you – like me are looking forward to all the fun day parties and music around downtown and S Congress I am returning to my favorite hat shop – Goorin Brothers on Saturday 21st at 2pm, and will head over for a stunning sunset concert at JW Marriot Roof Top Terrace at 6pm the same day.

I will be accompanied by my pedal steel player Tim Fleming for these, and more shows around TX.

Hope to see you!

Paws of a Bear Spring Tour on the road!

The 2020 Spring tour, aptly named after my new album “Paws of a Bear”, has just begun! Last night we did a soft start in Albuquerque, NM and from here the tour will take us through Texas to SxSW and a lot of other fun concert venues, through LA, MS, AL and down to Florida.

Lil’Chief is getting some updates so we don’t wake up on the hood of the car!

Lil’Chief is getting some updates too. From previous owners he had some water leaks which has made the floor in the cab-over a bit wobbly. White Trash MacGyver has spent the last few days ripping it out and building new support and floor, with the help of our generous hosts Eric and Wendy Bardrof, also photographers extraordinaire. When you see Wendy’s pic you realize why New Mexico’s slogan is “Land of enchantment”.

I’m also very excited to have my pedal steel genius Tim Fleming with me for select shows in Texas. He will join me from Dallas to SxSW and Houston.

Hope to see you on the road!

Today May 29th I’m doing the 100th gig on the Drivin’ & Dreaming tour! We’ve had such a journey, been all through the deep south, in Texas for SxSW and back to the east coast, and now we’re hitting number 100 in New York City tonight at Pianos (7pm).

The tour has been amazing so far. I’ve experienced so much and met so many wonderful people. But it’s by no means over. We’re fully booked until August in NY, MA, ME, CT, PA, OH, IL and IA and we will keep on trucking towards the west coast. I hope to see so many more friendly faces and keep spreading my music like a wildfire over the US. If you haven’t got my new album yet there’s a limited amount of physical CDs for sale here!

Tonight only there will be free Drivin’ & Dreaming t-shirts for everyone (first come first served) so don’t miss out on celebrating my 100th gig with me at Pianos in NYC!

Here’s a selection of what people has said about my shows so far:
Of all the voices – and man, they seem to issue them at birth to Swedish women – Talvik has the most faith in hers in an “I don’t need a theatrical gimmick” kind of way.”
– Austin Chronicle
Listening to her music, an otherworldly edge, surprising twists and powerful, haunting vocals make her much more than just another pretty folk-pop-acoustic performer.”
– Atlanta Retro
Sofia Talvik is absolutely freaking gorgeous, and her charming stage presence drew me in, all the more. Not only is she a great singer, she fingerpicks her acoustic flawlessly, reminiscent of the steady subtle perfection of Nick Drake’s Pink Moon.
Swedish filmjölk in Houston

I was planning on making a post sxsw post here on my blog but I’ve just been so busy I haven’t gotten around to it. We did eight shows at sxsw this year and getting to all the shows proved to be the hardest part. We hitch hiked, took the bus (if it came one) and managed to “catch a Chevy”. Forget about taxis..

Last day both me and Jonas bought some really cool boots. I got a pair that was exactly like my old pair but in a different color and had my old boots repaired for $135 ouch!!! Jonas found a vintage pair for $40. And then we headed to the rodeo. That was really cool as I’ve never been before. We really went there to see Glen Campbell who was performing but the rodeo itself turned out to be a big plus. Glen was wonderful and I was so happy to have caught him live at his goodbye tour.

So on that happy note we packed up and was going to leave for Houston when the RV decided to give up. So we got stuck in Austin with our home in the shop for two extra days. Fortunately Ranger Bob and his wife Elaine saved us from having to camp out on the street and took us in to stay with them. The repair of the RV totaled to $1000 which kinda set us aback a bit and we missed two gigs in Houston.

But when we finally got to Houston a lot of fun awaited us! We played at the Swedish Club of Houston’s crawfish party and I’ve never had such good crawfish in my life. Swedish style with dill of course. And hanging out with John and Edie who arranged it was great too. Edie gave me a filmjölk starter. Filmjölk is kind if a Swedish yogurt that has a living bacteria culture. You can get it in every grocery store in Sweden so I never even thought about making it myself but as you can’t get it in the US I was happy to learn all about it. Turns out it so simple you almost don’t have to do anything at all, you just mix it with milk and let it sit overnight and in the morning it’s filmjölk.

You can actually make soft cheese from it too and I just tried that. It’s actually getting ready in my kitchen right now. I flavored it with black pepper and garlic. I hope it’s going to turn out good. I can’t wait to try it!

So that’s about what I’ve been up to since we last spoke. I hope to see you on the road!!
