V – Update #5

It’s just a few weeks left until we’re releasing ‘V – Part Three of L.O.V.E’ and I just got this awesome video for the single ‘Delusional’. The video is made by Martin Obert and I asked him about his inspiration for the video, and here’s what he said:

I imagined the video when I was coming home late in the night. I was waiting for the bus and as I was sitting leaned forward with my hands together a lamp above threw a shadow on the ground. It was shaped a little like a human head and then it stroke me – there is a cool video in there.

I made the video under my table; with two lamps, two hands, a camera and a laptop for live view. I never did any hand shadows so I’ve also had to learn how and experiment a lot. That’s what made it challenging and interesting – I had to come up with a story that is possible to tell with a very limited set of expressive elements.

“I love you and all your shoes”

So I just told you I love food… Well I also love shoes. And any girl who loves shoes knows it’s more like an addiction. There are ladies who loves handbags. Me, I buy one that I love after many hours looking for the perfect one and wear it till it falls apart (quite literally).

But shoes… They’re quite a different story. I guess I could say I’m a shoe collector with no intention of being one. I see them and I think I shouldn’t. I think I have too many already. And yet they call out to me. Their tiny voices saying “buy me, buy me”.

So today with 15 minutes to spare between work and party I found these great not too high heeled boots on sale (of course).

I asked if they had a return policy – no.

I asked if I could have them reserved until tomorrow – no.

(At this point I felt I’d done all I could to turn them down.)

What was left to do but to buy them?

In a weak moment I heard myself saying” I’ll take them”, while picturing my overfull wardrobe at home, and at the same time picturing someone else walking away in these boots on sale in my size…

Walking to the party with the bag in my hand, I kept thinking how my husband would sigh over me buying yet another pair of shoes I don’t need. So when I called him later from the bar and told him about that new pair of shoes that would clutter our apartment I dreaded the worst but he said… “Honey, I love you and all your shoes”.

And I guess that’s a story of true love, whether you apply it to the shoes or the wife buying them.

Coming home from a trip to the south of Sweden and my nephew’s christening in a church built in 1653 (yes, I’m from Europe where history is from haha) I was pleasantly surprised by two reviews of my work. Sofia Talvik – because I care

Yet another post today. I’m keeping busy!
Sometimes I get fan mail and I try to answer them all, unless they’re really weird or really dirty. A while back I got a fan mail from a girl called Jenny. I laughed all day because of her email, because she requested a picture of me, but she wouldn’t settle for the usual press photo – she wanted a pic of me with an pet. I’m a big fan of Erik Eriksson’s book “Brev till samhället” which basically is Erik sending all sorts of weird letters to different companies, banks, gouverments etc, demanding all sorts of strange stuff and then publish their answers. I kind of felt this could be such an email, but then again, you never know so of course I answered her email as best I could.

But it did turn out to be a prank, or rather a study in how many celebs who actually answer their fans email. You can read the story (and the email and my answer) here:

It’s not very often I come across Folk music that’s to my taste. Maybe it’s just a genre that doesn’t really do that much for me, I don’t know. Now, before all Folk artists out there get all defensive and start writing in complaining that I’m dissing them as a collective, please, save your venting, you couldn’t be further from the truth.

You see, although I’m not the biggest lover of Folk music in general, when it’s done properly, like pretty much any genre (especially Classical but that’s a totally different story), it can be stunning.

Look at artists like Gemma Hayes, Kathryn Williams, Nick Drake, Tom McRae or Cara Dillon, with the latter especially being truly sublime. Folk absolutely is a genre that’s both under appreciated whilst also being a backbone to music as a whole and one we must all embrace ‘for the greater good’.

That’s what leads me onto Sofia. We decided to choose December as our MP3 of the month above all other tracks off her most recent long playing effort Street of Dreams as it would be too easy to choose the single It’s Just Love based on the facts that 1 – it’s a single already and 2 – it’s a duet with one of my personal heroes, Bernard Butler, now, that would bias the vote ten fold.
No, what sets December apart from the bunch is that it’s just so much more delicate than the others.

With a vocal range tinged by echoes of Dolores Mary O'Riordan Burton from the Cranberries blended with a light heartedness that in some ways isn’t too distant from Joni Mitchell in her heyday all those years ago, December has managed to remain on constant replay for a good while now and will continue to do so until another track off the album takes our fancy.
Featuring an accent that does at times sound Irish it’s almost unnoticeable that she is in fact from Sweden. Don’t worry. We’ll keep the Abba references to a minimum.

Sofia has obviously been working as a solo artist for long enough now to realise where she wants to get, it’s abundantly clear that she’s working with people who are on her wavelength and are helping her do that

If there was ever a time for artists like Sofia to be in the forefront it’s got to be now, we’ve got others Acoustic Soloists like James Morrison and Blunt pushing acoustic based song writing into the mainstream and whilst we really shouldn’t pin all of our hopes on artists like these, god help us if we did, it is great to see that every now and then artists like Sofia do get the spotlight shone in their direction. 2007 should be the year that spotlight gets turned to face her and we wish her all the best when it does.

I am also green with envy that she’s worked with a hero, but I’ll get over that so don’t worry too much..
