Unmistakably Nordic in flavor, Sofia Talvik somehow still conforms to American interpretations of her own original music, a North Sea siren blending sparkle and melancholy, creating a special niche of folk music.
“Talvik’s versatility as a vocalist is at the core of the song, her voice sweet and clear when delicate and, when raised, capable of making the pulse race. (…) In the end, it’s only as the bucolic finale ‘You Bring Me Back’ elapses into silence that Talvik’s spell is finally broken, leaving an impulse to live through the heady, ravishing experience all over again. (…) A sumptuous set of songs to listen to with eyes shut tight and ears wide open.”
My “Florida Acoustic” Tour is over and it’s been great! I did 7 gigs in 7 days all of them outside. Going from one side of Sweden to the other I was so happy to be travelling with a Bose L1 system. Not only was it a dream to travel with as it’s so light and easy to demount but the comfort of knowing how your sound is going to be no matter where you perform is priceless. One of the biggest challenges you meet as a performer is coming to different venues and having to play with different sound systems of different quality so it was really relaxing to know that my music would sound the same no matter where I was. I met a great deal of lovely people and also had a steady audience online that followed my live stream.
A big thanks to all of you that listened live and online, to all the venues and of course Bose for making my tour a great deal easier! Here’s some videos and photos from the tour:
I love John Malkovich and one of my favorite movies are Dangerous Liaisons.
“Now, yes or no? It’s up to you, of course. I will merely confine myself to remarking that a “no” will be regarded as a declaration of war. A single word is all that’s required.” – Dangerous Liaisons
Tuesday June 29th you can catch me play at the Peace&Love Festival at the Peace&Love café. I’m doing an acoustic set to celebrate the upcoming release of my acoustic version of “Florida”. I’m playing at 7pm (kl 19).
If you’re an aspiring artist yourself you can also catch the panel discussion on Wednesday 30th for “Fast Forward” around the music industry, where I will participate and give my view of how it is to be an artist in today’s changing industry.
Dagens skiva has written a nice review of my new album “Florida” and given it a 7 out of 10.
Lou Reed–introt på King Of The Willow Tree är grymt. Det lätta sättet Talvik sjunger på. Osäker i stämband men bestämd i gärning. Det tar 30 sekunder att fånga mig. (…) Dessutom är The Light är det vackraste i musikväg som 2010 fått fram hitintills.
“The Lou Reed intro of “King of the Willow Tree” is awesome. The lighthearted way Talvik sings. Unsure in vocal chords but firm in determination. It takes 30 seconds and I’m caught. Not to mention that “The Light” is the most beautiful 2010 has presented so far.”
