Ikväll spelar jag i London på Jajaja’s Xmas Party!
Sofia Talvik – Americana / Folk with Swedish Roots
Unmistakably Nordic in flavor, Sofia Talvik somehow still conforms to American interpretations of her own original music, a North Sea siren blending sparkle and melancholy, creating a special niche of folk music.
Ikväll spelar jag i London på Jajaja’s Xmas Party!
I’ve done 3 Christmas shows in Stockholm, and you’ll be able to see the last one in tomorrow’s window of my Xmas Calendar. So for all of you living in the UK, that haven’t had the chance to attend my Christmas shows, here’s your chance now! I’m playing live at Jajaja’s Xmas Party this Thursday, December 17th, at the Lexington.
I won’t play just Christmas songs but I might treat you to one of my free Christmas singles available on www.sofiatalvik.com/download
I’m proud to say that me and Sophie Rimheden is somewhat of a power duo. We wrote our first Christmas song together, a disco dance hit called “Xmas on the Dancefloor” and Sophie has made several remixes of my songs. She’s known as Sweden’s electronica Princess and she’s just released a new Christmas single that she’s sharing with you in today’s episode of Sofia Talvik’s Xmas Calendar! You can download Sophie Rimheden’s Christmas single, called “Xmas time” and is part of the compilation “Jul på Techno” here.
If you’re in Stockholm you can also swing by the release party for “Jul på Techno” today at Debaser Medis, Coctailbaren 7-9 pm.
So I’ve spent my first night here in LA. Me and Warren met up with his lovely friend Kristin and she took us to the Hotel Café where a bunch of people played live. It was awsome but I was a partypooper and wanted to get some sleep. Anyway, when we were about to leave I spotted Aqualung in the audience. I managed to work up some nerves to speak to him, and he seemed to think I was some annoying fan (which I am). But there were like a couple of showcases at SXSW that I didn’t want to miss and one of them was Aqualung’s. I only managed to stay for a few songs but he was really good. I joked to my cellist Christian that Aqualung could be his gay little brother (I don’t even know if he’s gay, and if he would read this he would probably hate me) they do look a little bit alike.. just check this out:
Yes, weird isn’t it. It’s been really hectic the last few days and I haven’t found any time to blog but I’ll try to make up for it now. Friday we had a morning gig at Sweden goes South by Southwest. It was really nice on an outside patio, but unfortunatley Sweden has sooo many talanted bands that we only got to play four songs each.
As they only served vegan food on the party, we decided to go and have a real Texas BBQ dinner that night. I had the junior portion but still couldn’t finish it. The guys had the regular portion and DID finish it all, just check out the evidence here:
Saturday we played our last gig at the Sheraton Hotel, which was really nice. We also signed with the American record label Worldsound which we’ve hung out with for the last few days. It’s really exciting and I hope it means you all will see more of me in the US in the future. We finished Saturday night a bit diffrently in the band. I sang a duet with Austrian singer/songwriter Florian Horwath on his set, the guys had some Jack Daniels and Joakim lost his wallet on the snack machine on the hotel (he got it back though, 50 bucks poorer).
This morning the guys packed their things and left early to the airport. I’m feeling very lonely, especially since Jonas left too. I know it’s silly but I already miss him terribly. Tomorrow I’m off to LA to play at a dinner party set up by the Swedish Consulate so that’s why I’m still here in Austin. So my dear friends, more updates to come from LA next!
