Love from L.A.

I just landed in LA. It’s kind of a bit cooler here than in Texas, I didn’t really count on that but I did bring a sweater so I’ll be fine. I just checked in to the Saharan Motor Hotel, and Warren from Worldsound who is with me reluctantly checked in to the same hotel although he refered to his room as “creepy”. Mine is ok, it’s your average motel room.

Tomorrow I’m meeting with the guys at the Swedish Consulate, and then I’ll be playing at their dinner. I probably won’t have any time to do anything else which is good because then time will fly until I get back to Jonas in Stockholm.

Jonestown on a CD Baby Playlist!

cdbaby
I got a mail today from CD Baby, the largest indie-distributor in the U.S. They LOVE the Jonestown CD and are putting it on their “Haunting, Fractured Folk Pop collection” playlist.

Check it out here: https://cdbaby.com/playlist/7

This is what they said about the album:
“The CD Baby editorial staff hears hundreds of albums every day and we love your “SOFIA TALVIK: Jonestown” CD so much we’re going to include it in our upcoming Haunting, Fractured Folk Pop collection which will be featured on cdbaby.com for one week beginning on Wednesday, December 31st 2008.”

Rave review from Ninthspace

I just got this lovely review from Ninthspace! Thank you so much! 🙂

“I guess, by the time a musician gets to their third album they know whether it’s going to work out for them. Not writing, recording and touring as a hobby, but embracing their talents and working with something that’s turned out to be innate to their existence. There are perhaps a handful of musicians that I could categorise in such a way.

With the release of Jonestown, Sofia Talvik easily gets over the idea of the difficult third album (younger sibling of the difficult second album) and turns out a collection that eclipses her first two. Opening track and lead single As Summers Pass recalls the past with its acoustic progressions, but the subsequent song My James Dean is astonishing.

Because it’s not what you’re expecting. Sure it has these synth pads that appear to hang over from its predecessor, but the guitar loops lower, more geared towards grooving. The best way I can describe it is the merging of the droning synth-rock of Stereolab and the sub-Spektor inclinations of El Perro del Mar with piano too.

Over the top of this comes Sofia’s outstanding vocals and a plaintiff declaration that I’m not that special. But she is.

Big in Asia!

I like the body, very sexy. Body like miss Fillippino” sa hon och gick sen vidare.

Multikulti!
