Tune into Chicago radio show “Noteworthy” on UIC radio (The official Illinois University radio) tomorrow Monday July 23rd at 5:30pm. I’ll be chatting about the tour and might even play at tune or two. You can listen through their website.

After the show, make sure you get on the bus to the Elbo Room where I’ll be performing at 10pm. Chicago based cellist Ian Maksin will be doing a set at 9pm so don’t miss that! We’ll also play a few tunes together! I can’t wait!
It’s not that I’m a fan of most Swedish artists because they take on American genres I find favor with, but more so how they approach them. I feel that sometimes for such a decidedly American creation as folk and its long association as being music for the thinking man, there is more pressure as an American to create something that lives up to the sound of its predecessors and that sentiment can be all too obvious to the listener at times. That feeling doesn’t come across when listening to Sofia Talvik’s latest album, The Owls Are Not What They Seem. There is an effortless emphasis on melody that is influenced by the past, but never indebted to it. On “Everybody’s Favorite Concubine,” Talvik delicately glides along in a sparse setting that throws a few nods to the 60s and is relaxed in the way in it conveys emotion. Once the background vocals softly come in, everything’s extra creamy.
Emergency update!!!

So I’ve spent my first night here in LA. Me and Warren met up with his lovely friend Kristin and she took us to the Hotel Café where a bunch of people played live. It was awsome but I was a partypooper and wanted to get some sleep. Anyway, when we were about to leave I spotted Aqualung in the audience. I managed to work up some nerves to speak to him, and he seemed to think I was some annoying fan (which I am). But there were like a couple of showcases at SXSW that I didn’t want to miss and one of them was Aqualung’s. I only managed to stay for a few songs but he was really good. I joked to my cellist Christian that Aqualung could be his gay little brother (I don’t even know if he’s gay, and if he would read this he would probably hate me) they do look a little bit alike.. just check this out:

Some more cello

I've discovered I'm probably not cut out for this blogging stuff.

Real bloggers write everyday, and even though I had the vision that I would write every single time I did something with the album I haven't. Mostly I think because I get home so late and am so tired that I just want to go to bed.

Anyway, we recorded the very last song yeterday. I wasn't even sure if I was going to do it, after all we already have 12 wonderful songs. But hey why not, that gives you one more song for the album and we might as well while we're in the studio. I've been on and on about how this album is going to be more produced and sound bigger than the last one, but this last song will only have a bit of slide guitar which we'll record today and then, it's done.

I found some pics of my cellist Christian, that I haven't published yet so here they are.
