Dreaming in Holly Springs

Last night I had the great experience to play at the Holly Springs Cultural Center. I was invited by The Swedish Consulate of Raleigh, SACC and SWEA and the night was a total hit. Holly Springs Cultural Center is a beautiful building and it’s always a treat to get to play in a theatre environment, built for performances. (Check out all the pictures from the concert here)

After the gig the local restaurant My Way Tavern treated us to a great dinner so that was really awesome! If you ever go there I recommend you try the meatloaf! Yum!

I hope to be able to come back to Holly Springs in the future! Tonight (April 20th) another great venue is awaiting us in Black Mountain, NC. I really look forward to playing at White Horse, Black Mountain and hope to see you there!

“A thing of spectral acoustic beauty”

I’m tracking my footprints, or rather tire tracks, back towards the east coast and will be re-visiting a few of my favorite concert venues and exploring a couple of new ones along the way. So it’s extra nice when Connect Savannah gives me this “welcome back” in their latest edition:

Sofia Talvik’s newest collection of songs, The Owls Are Not What They Seem, sounds like it could have been recorded in the early 1970s, when singer/songwriters were prized for their eccentricity, and the striking colors they brought as individuals to commercially-viable acoustic balladry. (…)

On this album, she is clearly in her element. It is a thing of spectral acoustic beauty, and this Monday night performance is highly recommended by us jaded fools here at Connect.

LA music blog Hotel Cafe Junkie (for you who don’t know this Hotel Cafe is a singer/songwriter concert series and one of the best music venues in LA) just listed me as their April artist of the month.

“She’s got a sweet sounding voice and seems to use a variety of instruments in her music. Sometimes there are some beautiful strings in the background that just fill out the sound with amazingness.”

Hotel Cafe Junkie likes good original music and, although not affiliated with the actual venue, I’m super excited to be appointed artist of the month! Thank you!

In love with Alabama

At first it seemed like a real challenge to book gigs in Alabama and Mississippi, and some people actually told us we would probably be better off skipping them altogether. Well, let me tell you I’m pretty happy we ignored that advice. If I haven’t played the best venues there is in Alabama, I think my head is going to explode because the places I’ve played here have been some of the best gigs on my tour so far. In beautiful Birmingham I was invited to play Moonlight on the Mountain and got to discover a great singer/songwriter called Nathan Reich who also happens to play guitar in the new hip band Flights. In Auburn I played the low key intimate The Gnu’s Room and in Tuscaloosa I played at The Bama Theatre with local Sparrow and the Ghost and also did a show at the Alabama Art Kitchen. In Cullman I had standing ovations at the 60’s style coffee house Berkely Bob’s Coffee House. Alabama has been so great, it’s actually the only state where I’ve had ONLY good shows.

So here’s a few pics and videos. See you in Arkansas and Texas!
